This protocol aims to facilitate the communication between content producing tools and repositories that persistently manage learning resources and metadata. The SPI work focuses on two problems: (1) facilitating the metadata and resource publication process (publication in this context refers to the ability to ingest metadata and resources); and (2) enabling interoperability between various components in a federation of repositories. This article discusses the different contexts where a protocol for publishing resources is relevant. SPI contains an abstract domain model and presents several methods that a repository can support.     In the context of the ICOPER project, the Open ICOPER content space (OICS) has been defined as the umbrella combining a portfolio of interoperable repositories, content and tools, as a test bed for the specifications and standards that become part of the ICOPER reference model. The use cases that the OICS will support emerge from the collaboration of all work packages. After fruitful discussions between all partners of work package 1, it was decided to conceive the first generation of the OICS as a meta-repository providing search functionality. Technologically, it would be based on metadata harvesting and provide a simple search interface for querying this metadata. This should build the foundation for the implementation of more sophisticated use cases that are currently collected by work package leaders, and are analyzed under the supervision of WP7. These use cases serve as concrete inputs for the future development of OICS. Detailed descriptions about this task are presented in Section 7.This project is funded under the eContentplus programm

    Tracking Data in Open Learning Environments

    The collection and management of learning traces, metadata about actions that students perform while they learn, is a core topic in the domain of Learning Analytics. In this paper, we present a simple architecture for collecting and managing learning traces. We describe requirements, different components of the architecture, and our experiences with the successful deployment of the architecture in two different case studies: a blended learning university course and an enquiry based learning secondary school course. The architecture relies on trackers, collecting agents that fetch data from external services, for flexibility and configurability. In addition, we discuss how our architecture meets the requirements of different learning environments, critical reflections and remarks on future work

    Unfolding -- A library for interactive maps

    Visualizing data with geo-spatial properties has become more important and prevalent due to the wide spread dissemination of devices, sensors, databases, and services with references to the physical world. Yet, with existing tools it is often difficult to create interactive geovisualizations tailored for a particular domain or a specific dataset. We present Unfolding, a library for interactive maps and data visualization. Unfolding provides an API for designers to quickly create and customize geo-visualizations. In this paper, we describe the design criteria, the development process, and the functionalities of Unfolding. We demonstrate its versatility in use through a collection of examples. Results from a user survey suggests programmers find the library easy to learn and to use
